Teaching
Teaching Philosophy
My approach to teaching is grounded in four core principles: active engagement, mutual respect, relevance, and real-world application. I believe that education should prepare students not only with theoretical knowledge, but also with the practical skills they need to succeed professionally. In my courses, students work with tools such as SPSS, Qualtrics, and Excel to solve real marketing problems. I see my role as a facilitator, creating an inclusive environment where every student feels heard and challenged to grow. Syllabi are available upon request.
Five Pillars
What I believe about learning
01
Practical Skills
Education should prepare students for the demands of the professional world. My courses focus on both foundational knowledge and hands-on training with tools such as SPSS, Qualtrics, and Excel.
02
Active Learning
Learning is a collaborative process. I encourage students to actively engage with course material through discussion, teamwork, and project-based work (both in person and online).
03
Safe Environment
Respect is the foundation of my classroom. Every question is welcome, and I offer multiple ways to participate so that every student can engage in a way that feels comfortable to them.
04
Relevance
I connect every topic to current, real-world examples. I also invite students to bring their own experiences into the conversation, which often leads to the richest discussions.
05
Embrace New Challenges
Drawing from my own experience across two countries and cultures, I encourage students to pursue new opportunities (internships, study abroad, or simply stepping outside their comfort zone).

What Students Say
“
I left this class with several friendships with other marketing students whom I would have never spoken to if my professor didn’t encourage it from the first class. I feel like this course was truly taught by an educator.

Professor Susana brought an energy to this course that I haven’t experienced in Fogelman before. I’m leaving this class proud to be a marketing major, and having a female figure to look up to and be inspired by.

“
She was present throughout the entire semester. While I did not see her physically in-class her consistency in communication felt as if I was there too (…) I appreciate her understanding and empathy for students, and I think that defines her as one whom I value greatly.

“
Before enrolling in this class, I knew absolutely nothing about marketing research. I truly enjoyed this class thanks to Professor Jaramillo, who always had a great attitude and made the topics very easy to understand.

“
Great professor! She told us about her real-life experiences while being a marketer. These are stories I will never forget! She also was always very concerned about whether or not we understood the material.

The professor is very nice and approachable when students need extra help with the subject or assignments. Her format is a great mix of simple ways to apply what the student has learned and more advanced applications. Excellent instructor!
